[Actually, for me, one of the most interesting things about The Silk Road is seeing the early Deng China, when it was juuust turning capitalist. The Referee may peg what is shown as an energy-poor world, about TL 6 in the cities, TL 3 in the countryside. Not very uncommon, in the Imperial Empty Quarter.]
